Harmony needs work, too much bass.

The strings harmonies don't fit very well with the piano melody. I suggest learning/working on counterpoint more. The strings either match the piano, making the song feel empty at such a low register, and there are a few points where the harmony doesn't match, and I'm not talking about nonharmonic tones. Follow your own chord structures.

And the other issue is that there is quite a lot of bass in this song, which means you're gonna need more of even lower bass to act as a foundation. In this case, a lot of melodic stuff is found in lower registers, so you have to be careful. Some parts of the song got dangerously close to being fuzzy sounding because there wasn't enough lower bass. An alternative is to focus on more chord work in the higher registers and keep the melody low.

Also, I know that you have your own intentions for each piece, but I find the piano very disappointing in this song, because all you do is use a single melody line. Pianos are very powerful and flexible, full, and unique because of how it's played. You have the potential for lots of accompaniment, chords, runs, counterpoints, etc, so use them and take advantage of them. For most songs, the piano parts themselves could almost act as a whole piece.

Piece does improve a bit when upper strings come in near the end, since it makes the piece feel more full and gives a solid foundation.

Though I do have to say, like most amateur works, this does have a lot of emotional effort put into it. For orchestral works with a lot of emotion, I do recommend suspended cymbals. They work wonders, with or without crashes at the end of them.

I would also recommend improving the chord progression by adding more variation and spicing it up a bit. Unfortunately, there's really no good way to describe this without going into a decent amount of music theory (not hard to learn though). I would at least recommend trying new things, especially outside of the box stuff.

For extra techniques to add flair, try ornaments, modulations (key changes, these are powerful), a few melodic fills, and slightly changing certain things in the piece as they repeat (this one is hard to describe, just experiment to see if you can improve on the original melody with more tension and just stick it on the end).

Hope this helps!

This helps indeed!
Thanks for this very critical and helpful review!
You've written much things that i can use to become a better composer.
Well, that's all i have to say. Again, thanks!

Ew.

Horribly generic. Everything was very constant all the way through, and everything was much too basic. Quit out halfway because I was falling asleep. Nothing clicked, sorry.

PERVOK responds:

So, even though the piece had a decent arrangement and it didn't make your ears bleed because it wasn't as bad as you say it is, it deserves a 2?

I all of a sudden doubt your "musical prowess".

Meh.

I comment harder on classical songs lol.

There are one or two small errors in the song near 0:50 somewhere. Again, a bit simple, even for background music (that is your intention, to use it in a flash, right?). Fun auxillary percussion usage, especially the chimes, liked that.

Decent. Could be better though.

PERVOK responds:

No excuses from me; I had a really hard time writing this piece. After I tried to write something complicated, it went to shit, so I went for something simple sounding that I could try to make it sound good (sound quality wise).

Well... I can say I liked it at least :P

Interesting.

One of your better songs. You showed some unique melodic work and slightly more complex chords in the beginning. Percussion is also relatively varied throughout the piece. I couldn't make out the bass so I couldn't comment on that. Personally, I didn't like the long gaps between the guitar thing, but this is just opinion. There's not much else to say about this. Not bad for a DnB song.

PERVOK responds:

No bass? I gotta double check on the EQing there...

I personally like this song because it's not entirely drum 'n bass. I don't like lots of popular drum 'n bass tracks because they're too repetitive. I know, that coming from me. Crazy :P I think that the changing melodies and the fact that there actually IS a melody (instead of a bow-wow-growl pattern, haha).

I'm glad it got higher than a 5 in your books. Kudos, friend.

A bit overrated...

It's a nice piece, but a bit too simple for my liking. More can be done to this to make it more full and beautiful.

It's like you've never seen Naruto in your life!

Very bad music!

You did not show any effort in making this music, which is simply chashing chords in reversed volume and almost random notes and melody.

Why did you give me 2s? o_O
